Introduction
In the early 90s exploratory drillings were made in the outskirts of Cegléd. As a result, 54°C hotwater was found 1000 metres below the surface. Excitement and pleasure were justified as laboratory results proved the long-awaited news. Thermal water! The water itself contains sodium chloride hydrogen carbonate as well as fluoride and iodine medicinal water, which is extremely suitable for treating locomotor, rheumatic, digestive, dermatological disorders and rehabilitate the nervous system. Moreover it is advisable to take a drinking cure. Its declaration of medicinal water is in progress. Declaring the place as a health resort was brought up because of its climatic, weather and environmental conditions serve as a good basis.
On hearing this, the local government was bombarded by investors in the country and abroad. The representative body finally decided to accomplish the plans as investments of their own. Over 700,000,000 HUF was subsidized ti this within the scope of Széchenyi Project. In this way the volume of investment is more than 2.5 thousand million HUF.
The local government invited tenders with fore qualification in two rounds for which several tenders were made. In spring 2002 the final decision was made as follows, a long-cherished dream set off on a total area of 38,000 square metres.
Indoor and outdoor pools: from the medical pools to the spectacular fountain pools, from the children’s pools to the open-air swimming pool, altogether ten pools provide therapeutic and wellness programmes with almost 1,400 square metres water surface.
Inside the several-storeyed roofed building a spectacular fountain pool, two hip pools, a children’s pool, a therapeutic pool, buoyancey, underwater jet massage baths, a gym, therapeutic and wellness massage, physiotherapy treatments, sauna and solarium serve for, healing, refreshment and relaxation all year round. A 19,000 square metres park covered with flowers and a promenade surrounded by trees attract to take a walk.
A boat lake, sports fields, playgrounds and an open-air theatre provide its sport, animated and cultural programmes. From the intimate terrace of the restaurant there is a beautiful view of the spa’s whole area. Cultural programmes in the city was provided for those interested and riding, wine tasting and gastronomical trips for those wishing to take a trip.
What has the future in store? Thinking within a reasonable time, in five or six year’s time the aim is to establish a holiday village. The will of people in Cegléd, the experienced team of the thermal spa, the investments and projects waiting to mobilize, and the regional task and programme coordination serve this aim.
